Available At: Dunkin Donuts

Notes: Jack and I have different approaches to our doughnut ordering. As a kid, he is prone to order a doughnut with as much going on as possible. Filling. And frosting. And sprinkles. Is there one with maybe filling, frosting, sprinkles, that’s garnished with another doughnut and maybe has a Twix bar stabbed through it? That’s the one he wants. Meanwhile, I go for something simpler. Powdered, or sour cream. And then that punk kid asks for a bite of mine and declares it better than his, and “Can I have it?” No. GET YO OWN.

So, we went to Dunkin Donuts, and Jack got his crazy whatsit doughnut. I got a pumpkin and pumpkin cheesecake square.

The pumpkin cheesecake square was the epitome of a Jack doughnut. The doughnut itself was a simple yeast doughnut, a bit on the dry side, but not really in a bad way. It was topped with a lurid orange icing. And crumb topping. And a drizzle of white icing. The filling was a very sweet, vaguely pumpkin-y pudding. And it was a little too sweet and really, not that great.

The pumpkin doughnut was a simple cake doughnut in a perfect pumpkin spice flavor with a light glaze. I could eat those all day long.
